G3 Genuine Guide Gear Inc. has investigated a potential defect associated with the assembly of 2002/03 G3 Professional and Industrial Avalanche Probes.
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), G3 is voluntarily announcing a Recall of 2002/03 G3 Professional and Industrial Avalanche Probes and issuing a Product Advisory for all G3 Avalanche Probes purchased prior to August 2002.
2002.03 G3 PROFESSIONAL AND INDUSTRIAL AVALANCHE PROBE RECALL
A small number of cable locking tension mechanisms in 2002/03 G3 Avalanche Probes have failed during attempts to assemble the probes. This poses a potential for delay in the search and rescue of possible avalanche victims.
Any probe purchased after August 2002 must be returned to your G3 Dealer. Your probe will be tested by G3, repaired if necessary and clearly marked before returning it to your dealer.
2002/03 G3 Avalanche Probes are identified with ‘PROFESSIONAL’ or ‘INDUSTRIAL’ markings as shown below.
G3 AVALANCHE PROBE ADVISORY
G3 is not aware of any defects related to G3 Avalanche Probes manufactured prior to August 2002. As a precautionary measure, G3 is advising owners of probes purchased before August 2002 to adhere to the following advisory:
After assembling your G3 probe, tie an overhand knot in the cable directly above the silver tensioning bolt as illustrated below.
This advisory is also suitable for customers with 2002/03 G3 Avalanche Probes whom require their probe at this time. G3 will satisfy any customers with concerns regarding their G3 Avalanche Probe.
